Course Information
Course Description
Recognise threats. Respond with confidence. Help protect the public.
Security is everyone’s responsibility. The ACT Awareness E-Learning course provides essential counter-terrorism awareness for anyone working in a venue, public space or organisation where people gather.
Developed by Counter Terrorism Policing and available through ProtectUK, this accessible online course helps learners understand how to identify suspicious behaviour, recognise potential security threats and take appropriate action when something does not look or feel right.
The course takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and is particularly relevant to people working in events, hospitality, retail, education, healthcare, transport, tourism, entertainment, security, places of worship and other publicly accessible locations. It is also suitable for people working within critical national infrastructure and members of the public who want to improve their security awareness.
What You Will Learn
Through six focused chapters, learners will explore important security topics including:
Recognising suspicious activity and behaviour
Identifying suspicious items
Understanding security vulnerabilities
Responding appropriately to potential terrorist threats
Awareness of marauding terrorist attacks
The practical steps individuals can take to help protect venues, colleagues, customers and members of the public
Additional optional modules are also available for learners who would like to explore particular security topics in greater depth. Completion of the optional modules is not required to receive the course certificate.
Why Complete ACT Awareness Training?
Terrorist attacks and security incidents are rare, but knowing what to look for and how to respond can make a significant difference.
ACT Awareness training gives learners the confidence to recognise when something may be wrong, understand how concerns should be reported and respond more effectively during a serious incident. It supports the development of a positive security culture in which employees remain alert without becoming alarmed and understand the important role they play in keeping people safe.
The course is ideal for organisations seeking to strengthen staff awareness, support venue security procedures and demonstrate a proactive approach to public safety.
